constant

That word seems to be foreign in the society we live in.

what does it mean to be “constant”?

consistant

always

unchanging

only God is known for His consistency, His unchanging, His faithfulness, always unchanging.

so what does a life of constant look like?

our double-minded, chasing-wind, never-satisfied culture is exhausting. we cannot count on people, love, friendships, family… we are always looking for what might be better, something we don’t have, something we need {or at least perceive as need}. i read an article called “Generation of Indecision” that nailed it on the head. these are not things that are unique to the newly adult anymore. the lifestyle has permeated full grown men and women in our society. people who want to chase happiness, chase the something-betters of the world, chase wind. so many choices, so many good things, so much to do/see/grasp, so much

my son told me about a speaker that he saw at camp this summer. the speaker spoke of a fish. the fish has everything that he needs to survive and live a complete life in his environment, but he sees the bait, the shiny, the other, and cannot help himself. he must have the other and that’s when life for him ends. if we can just find the satisfaction in the environment that we are currently in, we will be content.

today i prayed for those of us who are caught up in the much of life. i pray that we will be satisfied with where God has us and what He has for us. i pray that we will know the wonder, the glory, the joy, that is the life He has prepared this day for us. i prayed that we would know contentment and satisfaction. i pray that as we may stop striving for one moment to just revel in the love and the life that we have been given. that others would be inspired by the peace that flows from being satisfied only in You, today i pray…

Psalm 104:24-30

O Lord, how many are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all;
The earth is full of Your possessions.
There is the sea, great and broad,
In which are swarms without number,
Animals both small and great.
There the ships move along,
And Leviathan, which You have formed to sport in it.

They all wait for You
To give them their food in due season.
You give to them, they gather it up;
You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
You hide Your face, they are dismayed;
You take away their spirit, they expire
And return to their dust.
You send forth Your Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the ground.

Five Minute Friday

Join me in a prayer for our marriages across this nation. Marriage used to be a sacred institution, a blessed event, something amazing, special, unique. it was something you saved yourself for, something you planned on your whole life, something that was worth waiting for.

2 people

joined together

forever

our society has thrown all that out the door. people marry for fun, they check the box on social media as a joke, it is rarely taken seriously anymore.

why?

why protect the institution that marriage has become?

why fight for it?

why worry about it? nobody else is… or so it seems.

the vows, the promises, the words we say during the ceremony and the contract we sign. it does mean something. listen to those vows, listen to what you are promising. listen to what has been spoken, that was agreed upon. those vows are powerful.

I PROMISE to LOVE, CHERISH, HONOR…

in SICKNESS or in health

rich or POOR

FORSAKING ALL others

for how long should we do this?

UNTIL DEATH DO WE PART

DEATH! that’s a pretty big one. how many strive for the finish line? how many put aside selfishness? how many forsake all others? even when they are sick? even when finances strangle us?

our society has confused love with lust and it is killing marriage, it is killing families. although we don’t say killing family, we say that we are just “redefining” family, “redefining” marriage. we are not stopping to think of anyone else. children. society. school. work. how does our redefinition affect these things? society does not care. it only cares that it gets it’s way – it’s freedom to do as it wishes.

Lord, today i pray for marriage.

i pray for those who are in marriages that cannot find that way, that cannot find hope, that do not know how to get back to the beginning. i pray for love to return, for selfishness to dissolve, for someone to come along that can help. i pray that they find a way to rebuild, to refocus, to put past hurts and words behind them. i pray they find You in their brokenness and their sorrow.

i pray for those who are looking for marriage. who feel abandoned, lost, thrown aside. i pray that You would bring people that encourage them, people to comfort them, people to stand with them in their time of need. i pray You bless them this day.

i pray for those strong examples of marriage. i pray that You bless their commitment. i pray that You show their children, their friends, their families, their neighbors, that it is more than just luck which gets them thru each day.

Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate.

Today i pray for marriages around the world

and ask that you join me in this prayer.

any one of these things is close to impossible in this lightning paced world that i’m constantly finding myself in the fast lane of.

TIME flees from my presence
FOCUS is constantly interrupted
ONE THING at a time is near impossible as i return phone calls on the way to daily errands and activities.
                             YOU say…
meditate on My Word
quiet your mind
calm your heart
FOCUS

the world…

pushes   pulls   yanks   draws   coaxes   prods   threatens   vies

for every millisecond

every breath

every thought

The disciples, who we perceive to have had it all, even they begged – Lord, teach us to PRAY.

YOU answered –
GO AWAY from the chaos
GO AWAY from the crowd
find PEACE, QUIET, and FOCUS on ME and all will fall into place

but HOW? how do we do this? we wake up earlier and earlier only to find that there are more things to be done, no quiet places, no place to unplug, no areas left of solitude. multi-tasking is where we attempt to find more time.

the LIE: do more than one thing and you will find that the time multiplies.

the TRUTH: the more you attempt to do, the more time you create, the more things there are to fill that time with. as we pile more on top of more to get ahead, we fall further and further behind.

Quote from an Episcopal monk in Boston: “Do one thing at a time. As much as possible, do ONLY ONE THING” –Sabbath Rest in a World of Stress

if you have found ways to accomplish this task, please share…
