truth

In today’s world:

Truth is subjective and marketable
Love is a fleeting feeling
Integrity is extremely rare

We are living in a society where opinion and bias drive media and media drives society and money drives all of it. This week has been a rough one for me so far. I have found that there are many in the world who will not build into what they desire. They want ready made perfection and if it’s not offered, they will run to the newest, brightest, latest, greatest that appears to have what they want. Bouncing around from thing to thing, place to place, person to person. Newsflash: nothing is perfect. You must build what you want into your life. Throwing away people doesn’t solve much of anything.

I’m not sure even what to pray today in this world of lies and deception.

So, today i pray…

Psalm 15
Oh Lord, who may abide in Your tent?
Who may dwell on your holy hill?
He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness,
and speaks truth in his heart.
He does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor,
nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
in whose eyes a reprobate is despised,
but who honors those who fear the Lord;
he swears to his own hurt and does not change;
he does not put out his money at interest,
nor does he take a bribe against the innocent.
he who does these things will never be shaken.

Today i will pray for integrity, truth, loyalty. Today i pray that even when things are hard, we would make the decision to be truthful with ourselves, truthful with others. Today i pray that we would not shy away from work, that we would invest in what we have to build it up and not tear it down, that we would choose love as an action and not just a fleeting feeling.

Today i will remember…

Psalm 51:1-4
Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
according to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.
wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my sin is ever before me.
Against You, You only, I have sinned and done what is evil in Your sight,
so that You are justified when You speak and blameless when You judge.

May i remember my sin, may it ever be before me, that i might remember to repent for my blunders and forgive others as i am forgiven each day. Today i will pray that i remember Your forgiveness is ever before me and, in grace, to pass it along to the ones who fall.

grace

i saw this story today and it was such a sweet reminder of grace in marriage, friendship, life, that i wanted to share it. Today i pray for you to receive grace and to humbly give grace as each one of us has moments of imperfection in our day. Take a deep breath and remember that we are all more than our mistakes…

When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.

On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I’ll never forget what he said: “Honey, I love burned biscuits.”

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she’s real tired. And besides – a little burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!”

Life is full of imperfect things……and imperfect people. I’m not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else. But what I’ve learned over the years is that learning to accept each others faults – and choosing to celebrate each others differences – is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

And that’s my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of God. Because in the end, He’s the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit isn’t a deal-breaker!

Today i prayed for grace…

stuff

It’s Spring! Spring fever has arrived with a vengeance in my home this past week. I decided that my broke down kitchen was not going to get remodeled anytime soon. Watching HGTV, it looks so easy to 24 Hour Divine Design on a Dime, just put my head down and Fix this Old House. After all, I’m handy, crafty, pretty good with a paint brush, and definitely NOT afraid of hard work!

During this much longer process than we imagined, hat will not most likely end for another 2 weeks, I discovered that:

i am BLESSED
i am blessed by God
i am blessed with a BIG kitchen

My cupboards are full… and i mean FULL! MAXED OUT! There is NO ROOM for anything else! This got me to thinking as I look around at this beautifully big house that we are blessed with – we are FULL. We are completely, corner-to-corner, edge-to-edge full. We want to do big things here, but it’s too full to let anyone in and there are too many things to keep up with to have time for inviting, gathering, playing here. Our possessions own us.

Mark 10:21-22 Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” He told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this, the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Is Jesus saying I should sell EVERYTHING? No. He’s saying that my possessions own me and there is no room for me to let go and do or become what He has created in me and for me. The stuff in my life takes so much time to clean, organize, constantly becoming something more than what it was ever supposed to be. There is no room in life to praise God for His wonderful blessings because we are constantly overwhelmed taking care of things that He has blessed us so that we could be blessing others. How can we make room to give praise and thanksgiving?

So it is purge time (or as the Flylady would say, “Time to FLING IT!”)! Today i pray for OPEN HANDS to give and to bless others. i pray that we might have open hands, giving hearts, praise on our lips, abundance in our life! i pray that we would take these things that hinder our praise and give them freely away, knowing that the life that Jesus has promised is so much more abundant than things could ever be to us. i pray that we would praise God for every blessing – big or small – and remember that each moment with friends, family, loved ones everywhere is a blessing that cannot be replaced with a thing. Today i prayed that we would open our hands and give up everything to follow Him.

Today i prayed for YOU to be BLESSED!

persistence

{guest post} when God doesn’t give you what you asked for : Grit and Glory.

i saw this little post and was reminded of the many things we so desperately want at the moment, but with time they tend to get stuck on the back burner of our minds. today i pray that we would be persistent in the things that matter, that we would pray big things, that we would remember that prayer is more than just a list of things we want but a form of communication with the God of the Universe – our Creator. i pray we would really think about the things we pray about and determine whether they are worth our time or God’s. i pray for boldness and conviction and discernment and tenacity in our conversation with Him.

today i pray big things would happen in your life this day and your boldest prayers would be answered!

value

“God sees us with the eyes of a Father. He sees our defects, errors, and blemishes. But He also sees our value. What did Jesus know that enabled Him to do what He did? Here’s part of the answer: He knew the value of people. He knew that each human being is a treasure. And because He did, people were not a source of stress, but a source of joy.” ~Max Lucado, Grace for the Moment

Today i pray that we would see beyond frustration to the value of each person. Beyond their flaws, beyond their abilities. God, we all have value to someone, but not to all. But every person has value to You. You see beyond what we do, beyond who we are, to the core of who You created. You see our worth, that we are worth, that we are worth dying for, that we are worth sacrifice. We do not always see that in ourselves or in others.

“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.” Eph 2:1-2

Today, i pray we would see Your value in every person we meet, in every stressful flaw and situation, beyond the surface and to the heart. Today i pray we remember our value in You and that it will help us live each moment seeing the value and the worth of others that come across our path throughout each moment this day.

“But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.” Eph 2:4-5

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Eph 2:8-10

God sees your value – now it is time to live your life seeing the value in others.

self

Prayer is more than reminding God of our needs, more than crying about the problems in our life, more than aching about the hurts, the pain, the sickness. Prayer is about joining God in His incredible work on this planet. So many times we run to Him with our problems, and they are completely valid, but He wants more than that. He wants us to look outside our circumstances, look outside our self, look outside to the world around, to the joy and the pain, to the broken and the resurrected, to the poverty and the blessing. Prayer is more than a wish list, it is a joining together with the Father and desiring to see that life is bigger than our immediate surroundings. Sometimes these things are overwhelming and we do not see that our meagerness makes a difference, but God only needs a mustard seed to make amazing life happen.  http://john13verse34.blogspot.com/2012/03/lent-2-thursday-mustard-seed.html
