“Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord – Romans 12:19
For we know him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” Hebrews 10:30

It is His job to repay others or compensate. When we are angry, hurt, lost, we tend to want revenge – vindication. Do you see? Vindictive. We become vindictive. The very thing that we are hurt by, we now use to hurt others.

“He put on righteousness like a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head; and He put garments of vengeance for clothing and wrapped Himself with zeal as a mantle.” – Isaiah 59:17

These are God’s clothes. They do not fit us. Vengeance is not easily bore. It is a heavy burden that we do not know the weight until it is upon us. It will crush the life out of us.
God tells us in Leviticus “You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I AM THE LORD.” And in Deuteronomy “Vengeance is Mine, and retribution. In due time their foot will slip; for the day of their calamity is near. And the impending things are hastening upon them.”

As we watch our world crumble in sin and we watch friends take revenge with their own hands, we pray for them. God has designed specially made clothes for us to wear every day. Not just any clothes, ARMOR! He tells us in Ephesians 6 to put on the full armor of God, so we will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. We are to be robed in truth, righteousness, peace, faith. And most importantly, He has given us the Helmet of Salvation and the sword of the Spirit – His Word. We are to share these with others that they might also have armor to protect them, that they might not need to take vengeance on themselves. And then remember to PRAY! Verses 18-20 tell us to be diligent in our prayers for each other, persistently, at all times.

Today is God’s Vindication! He has won! It doesn’t matter what else happened. God has won the battle. He is victorious. We can be with Him for all eternity if we want to. His going to the cross, His beating, His murder. In today’s story, He is victorious and sin holds no power. He has taken revenge and redeemed His creation. We now have a choice to turn back to Him because of what He went thru in taking our sin upon Himself. We have the option of walking in His victory with Him because he has been vindicated.

Today i pray that we would take His armor upon ourselves and share the story of God’s vengeance upon sin! I pray we would take on the clothing that God has provided us and put off the vengeance that belongs to Him. I pray that we would give our heaviness to Him and allow Him to take our anger, our hurt, our pain. Allow Him to vindicate for us.

Today i pray that we would remember to put on the clothes designed for us by the One who loves us everyday.
